Medicated Pull-Apart French Bread

August 2024 by Angela Laufer

With just a handful of simple ingredients and only 15 minutes of baking time, be prepared to make the BEST cheesy, bacon-y pull-apart French bread you’ve ever had! I’ve been making this recipe as an appetizer for dinner parties and gatherings for over ten years, and it is always the first to go!

**Note: The beauty of cannabis-infused edibles is that the options for infusing and medicating are nearly endless. I used cannabis-infused Ghee for this recipe, but you can make and use homemade canna-butter too. Especially if you are making your own infused butter, using a dosage calculator before infusing and cooking helps you by confidently anticipating your results and dosage. *Check out our online ordering menu for more cannabis-infused cooking spices and ingredients*

Step 1: Prepare Your French Bread

Preheat your oven to 350°F. While the oven is preheating, take a bread knife and slice your French baguette Hasselback style (crosswise, about an inch apart, without cutting to the very bottom). You want your bread to still be in one piece, but able to fill it with a cheese/butter/bacon mixture.

Step 2: Mix Bread Filling Ingredients

Mix the rest of your ingredients in a large glass mixing bowl.

**Note: Have fun with this step! Over the years, I’ve added or substituted other ingredients to play around with the flavors. If you don’t like spice, feel free to nix the habaneros. (This is the first time I’ve added them to the recipe, as my coworker had garden fresh habaneros, and I couldn’t resist!) Usually, I’d use just yellow mustard, but I had Maine Maple Champagne Mustard on hand, so I opted to split the 2t between the two (and yum!). I also had some aged parmesan cheese from Wisconsin, so I grated some of that with the cheddar, for even a little more dimension. Also, it’s important to note that I used part regular butter, and part medicated Ghee, to reach my target THC dosage per serving.

Step 3: Fill Your Baguette

Fill each baguette slice with an equal amount of the buttery, cheesy bacon mixture. I usually take a small pinch and fill from one end to the other. This helps the bread lay flat and keeps the slices open during filling.

Step 4: Wrap and Bake

Once your French baguette’s slices are evenly filled, wrap the entire loaf in aluminum foil, with the seam side up to avoid spill. Place on a shallow baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown and starting to crisp on top.

Step 5: Enjoy

Simply unwrap, transfer to a serving plate if you so desire, and enjoy!! (:

Cooking with Cannabis-Infused Ingredients

A good starting point for ingesting cannabis edibles is to limit yourself to <5mg THC ; even less if you are new to THC-infused food. They can be stronger and more intense, differing drastically from smoking. For one, the effects can take anywhere from a half hour to 3 hours to fully metabolize, depending on an individual’s unique body and metabolic rate. In addition, because the THC is digested through your liver and can more readily cross the body’s blood-brain barrier, the high can be stronger and last longer. With that said, your edible’s potency depends on many factors: How it was prepared, the potency of your starting product, and considering the strain or concentrate’s cannabinoid and terpene concentrations. To test the potency and effect of your finished product, try a smaller amount (<5mg) and see how that dose affects you after 2-3 hours. Titrate your dose as desired, and use this personalized “standard” dose as a baseline for your recipes.
